Thiruvananthapuram: The State Minority Commission has called for an immediate end to attacks against Christians and disruptions of Christmas celebrations, expressing serious concern over the increasing incidents of violence and threats targeting the Christian community and Christmas festivities in various parts of the country.

The Commission has urged authorities to take strict action against such acts of violence and obstruction. State Minority Commission Chairman Adv. AA Rasheed has written to both the central and state governments, demanding urgent measures to address the challenges faced by the Christian community across India.

He stressed that governments must act firmly against those who spread violence in the name of religion and promote intolerance. In several northern states, including Delhi, Madhya Pradesh, Odisha, and Rajasthan, situations have emerged where people are reportedly unable to conduct prayers in accordance with religious customs or sell items related to Christmas celebrations.

The Commission noted that such incidents amount to an infringement on the freedom of religion guaranteed by the Indian Constitution and warned that these developments are detrimental to a secular nation. It has demanded strict action against such violations and strong legal measures against those responsible for the attacks.
