IMD Issues Red Alert as Heavy Rainfall Set to Lash Kerala

Thiruvananthapuram: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast heavy to very heavy rainfall across Kerala over the next five days. In view of the expected downpour, a red alert has been issued for Idukki, Palakkad, and Malappuram districts on Wednesday, with rainfall likely to exceed 204.4 mm within 24 hours.
According to the IMD, the intense rainfall may trigger flash floods, landslides, and mudslides in vulnerable areas. Urban flooding and waterlogging are also expected in several towns and low-lying regions. Authorities have urged the public and local bodies to remain on high alert and take precautionary measures.
Currently, Idukki, Ernakulam, Thrissur, Palakkad, and Malappuram districts are under an orange alert, while Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur, and Kasaragod remain under a yellow alert.
On Wednesday, Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Ernakulam, Thrissur, Kozhikode, and Wayanad will remain under an orange alert, followed by Kannur and Kasaragod on Thursday.
