Thiruvalla: LDF candidate for Thiruvalla constituency Mathew T Thomas has said he sees no need to respond to what he described as the baseless allegations levelled by Mathew Kuzhalnadan, expressing full confidence that the people of Keralam will reject them outright.

Responding to allegations related to the floods, the candidate pointed out that both the Central Water Commission and technical experts from IIT Chennai had conducted studies and submitted detailed reports on the matter, categorically establishing that the flooding was caused entirely by extremely heavy rainfall. He also rejected as factually incorrect the allegation that spillway shutters had not been opened, stating that all shutters were open at the time. He said it is well known why such falsehoods are being spread on the eve of an election, and noted pointedly that both the High Court and the Supreme Court had earlier warned against burdening the judiciary with such matters — and that Kuzhalnadan has now returned to do precisely that.

Minister K Krishnankutty also hit back, announcing that the matter would be examined and legal action initiated. He noted that when the issue was discussed in the Legislative Assembly, Mathew Kuzhalnadan raised none of these allegations — making it evident, the Minister said, that the charges are being revived now purely with the election in mind.
