Kozhikode: The contribution of the communist movement to Keralam cannot be forgotten and it was the Left governments that led the state towards its achievements, CPI(M) General Secretary M A Baby said.

He was speaking while inaugurating the CPI(M)'s three-day extended state committee meeting in Kozhikode.

The meeting will hold discussions and take decisions aimed at providing greater clarity and a more defined direction to the CPI(M)'s new initiatives and activities. Action plans will also be formulated to overcome the party's defeat in the Assembly elections and expand its influence among the people.

A total of 307 people, including state committee members, district secretariat members and elected office-bearers of organisations, will participate in the meeting, which will continue until Tuesday.

A rally attended by one lakh people will be held on Tuesday to mark the conclusion of the meeting. CPI(M) General Secretary M A Baby, Politburo members Pinarayi Vijayan and A Vijayaraghavan, and state secretary M V Govindan will address the rally at freedom square on Kozhikode Beach at 4 pm.
