Keralam's Decade of Transformation: LDF Government Presents Record of Landmark Achievements

Thiruvananthapuram: Beyond the 97 percent fulfilment of its 900 manifesto promises, the LDF government has placed before voters a wide array of major projects implemented over its tenure, spanning infrastructure, disaster rehabilitation, healthcare, transport, and youth welfare.

Wayanad's Dream Tunnel

The Anakkampoyil–Kalladi–Meppadi tunnel road, long envisioned as a permanent solution to Wayanad's chronic connectivity crisis, has received all necessary clearances and been formally inaugurated. The 8.735-kilometre tunnel, with 8.11 kilometres of underground passage, is being built at a cost of Rs 2,134 crore using KIIFB funding. The Chief Minister laid the foundation stone on August 31, 2025, with a target of completing the project within four years.

A Global Model of Disaster Rehabilitation

The first phase of the model township built for survivors of the Mundakkai-Chooralmala landslide disaster has been completed, with 178 houses handed over to families who lost their homes entirely. The township, conceived with 410 houses and associated facilities in total, has been designed to suit Wayanad's terrain and climate. Each single-storey house, built on 1,000 square feet with a foundation capable of supporting a second floor, includes a master bedroom, two additional rooms, a sit-out, living area, study room, dining room, kitchen, and storage space.

Vizhinjam Port

Despite the absence of Central government grant support, the state has restructured the subsequent phases of the Vizhinjam project to achieve completion by 2028 — seventeen years ahead of the original 2045 schedule. The inauguration of the port has already been conducted.

Bridges Connecting Communities

The Perumbalam bridge across Vembanad Lake in Alappuzha district, a long-cherished dream of island residents, has been completed and opened. The Kumbichalkadavu bridge, easing access to the Amburi tribal settlement, has also been built and opened to traffic.

Healthcare Leadership

The Institute of Advanced Virology stands as a landmark achievement in the state's proactive public health policy. An institute dedicated to organ transplant research and treatment was inaugurated in Kozhikode in 2025–26. A new health protection scheme has been launched for the uninsured middle segment — those outside the coverage of Karunya, Medisep, and KBF schemes. The Kannur International Ayurveda Institute has also been inaugurated.

Roads and Transport

The state contributed 25 percent of land acquisition costs to enable the National Highways Authority of India to take up the development of NH 66, with the first reach from Talapady to Chengala already completed as a six-lane highway. Over the past ten years, 18,000 of the 29,573 kilometres of roads under the Public Works Department have been upgraded to higher standards, with 20,000 kilometres now maintained under running contract. The Alappuzha–Changanassery semi-elevated highway has been completed and opened.

Empowering Youth

The upper age limit for PSC examinations has been raised to 40 for the general category, 45 for SC/ST applicants, and 43 for OBC candidates. Under the Connect to Work scheme, a monthly stipend of Rs 1,000 is being provided to job-seekers between 18 and 35 years of age, with 75,376 beneficiaries enrolled so far. The 2026 budget has announced free education till degree-level, marking the government's most recent intervention in higher education.
