Lal Says He Was First to Alert Police in Actress Attack Case, Hopes Perps Receive Maximum Punishment

Kochi: Director and actor Lal, speaking to the media, said that when he visited the survivor’s home on the day of the attack, he felt compelled to take action against the perpetrators out of the survivor’s distress and grief.
Lal clarified that he was the first to inform DGP Loknath Behera about the incident, not PT Thomas. He stated that PT Thomas arrived after he called Behera. Thomas asked that the driver, Martin, be taken to the hospital immediately, noting that Martin was in severe pain and that not hospitalising him could cause complications. Lal added that he expressed doubts about Martin’s behaviour, stating it did not seem right, and the North Indian officer who arrived was informed of these concerns. Subsequently, the police took the suspect into custody. Lal emphasized that his intervention at that moment was crucial and marked the beginning of the entire process.
Lal also said that he and his family cooperated fully with the court and the prosecution, providing all necessary information to help the case. He affirmed that he would continue to provide any details he knows even if the case reaches the Supreme Court. Lal stressed that he cannot comment on whether the verdict is right or wrong, or why it was delivered in this way. He expressed the hope that the perpetrators receive the maximum punishment. He also mentioned that he had not contacted the survivor regarding the verdict and did not know whether he should feel happy or sad.
