Kochi: Prof. K V Thomas has stated that fishing communities across Kerala will deliver a fitting electoral response to Congress leader Ramesh Chennithala for his demeaning remarks against fisherfolk.
In a social media post, Thomas — himself from a fishing community — said that he does not consider being called "Thiruthatthoma" an insult, but rather wears it as a badge of honour. However, he pointed out that what such remarks reveal is a deeply troubling mindset that seeks to demean and belittle an entire community.
K V Thomas noted that it was Congress members who first began using that slur against him, and that the episode has laid bare the true character of the Congress party. Having been in public life for 25 years, he expressed confidence that the people of Kerala — a secular state that cherishes unity in diversity — will never tolerate such attitudes. He added that those who insult the people of this land will receive their answer through the democratic process, as it should be.
