Kollam: An investigation has been launched to examine the possibility of sabotage in the Kureepuzha boat fire incident, where several boats moored in the backwaters were destroyed. The probe was initiated considering demands raised by fishermen after the incident. CCTV footage from the surrounding areas will be closely examined. The Kollam City ACP has been assigned to lead the investigation.
The fire, which broke out around 2 in the morning, completely destroyed about ten boats that had been anchored after returning from fishing. Nine small boats used for traditional deep-sea fishing and one fiber boat were reduced to ashes.

The boats belonged to fishermen from the Kulachal and Poovar regions. Gas cylinders stored on the boats exploded during the blaze, creating major challenges for rescue operations. However, people in the area moved nearby boats away, preventing a larger disaster. No injuries were reported.
Several Chinese fishing nets in the area were also damaged in the fire. Firefighters from various parts of the district rushed to the site and brought the flames under control.
