Drunk Driver Who Killed Family of Three in Kunnamkulam Arrested

Thrissur: The driver of the car that killed a family of three — including a three-year-old child — in Kunnamkulam has been arrested after surrendering to police. Ben (31), a native of Arthat, walked into the Kunnamkulam police station and surrendered. His arrest has been formally recorded and he will be produced before court shortly. Ben had fled the scene immediately after the accident, and surrendered while police were conducting a search for him.
Three members of a family — Muneer (33), his wife Shafna (26) and their three-year-old daughter Ameen Ibac — died in the accident. The family had stopped their motorcycle by the roadside to take a phone call when a speeding car slammed into them. The accident occurred around 11.45 pm on Saturday. The couple died at the scene while the child succumbed at the hospital.
Ben was in the car along with three friends. CCTV footage obtained by police shows the group leaving a private bar in Kunnamkulam after drinking. The three others in the car are already in remand, and it was through their statements that police confirmed Ben had been at the wheel. Police were tracking him through CCTV footage when he came forward and surrendered.
