To enhance the taste and quality of Onam celebrations, Kudumbashree, Kerala’s women-led poverty eradication and livelihood mission, has launched a thoughtfully curated Onam Gift Hamper.
Priced at Rs. 799, the hamper has a range of branded products made by Kudumbashree units, including: Kayavaravu (banana chips), Sharkkara Varatti (jaggery-coated banana chips), Red chili powder, coriander powder, turmeric powder, Sambar powder, vegetable masala, Semiya Payasam (vermicelli dessert) mix, and more.
Sales have begun through Kudumbashree’s own online platform, ‘Pocketmart’, under the tagline “Onam with Kudumbashree”. This allows customers across Kerala and beyond to conveniently place orders. Ship-rocket has been chosen as the delivery partner to ensure timely distribution.
In the initial phase, 5,000 hampers will be distributed online. In Thrissur district, the Kudumbashree Bazaar and Kannur Curry Powder Consortium are managing the distribution. Over 2,000 orders have already been received in the district, and packing operations are actively underway at the Kudumbashree Bazaar. Delivery will be completed within August.
Kudumbashree is one of India’s largest women’s empowerment programs, launched by the Government of Kerala in 1998. With over 4 million women members, it promotes financial independence, entrepreneurship, and social development through a decentralised network of community-based organisations.
Kudumbashree women are engaged in a wide range of economic activities including farming, food processing, handicrafts, retail, and services. By purchasing this Onam hamper, consumers are not only enjoying traditional Kerala flavours but also directly supporting the livelihoods of thousands of women entrepreneurs.
