Alappuzha: Dramatic scenes unfolded at the Alappuzha Press Club on Tuesday after Advocate Kishore Babu, Chairman of the KPCC Industries Cell, arrived to announce his resignation from the Congress party. Efforts by the Congress leadership to pacify him failed. KSU State General Secretary Ansil Jaleel reached the venue in an attempt to dissuade him, but Kishore Babu grew visibly agitated during the interaction at the Press Club.

Addressing the media, Kishore Babu announced that he had resigned from the primary membership of the Congress as well as all party positions, stating that the party was heading towards “total destruction.” He said the Congress had been reduced to a mere crowd, with no internal discussions taking place and leaders not even communicating with one another. Even the views of senior leader Ramesh Chennithala, he said, were no longer respected within the party.

Kishore Babu questioned the logic behind claims that the UDF, led by the Congress, would come to power in the upcoming assembly elections in Kerala. He stated that such narratives were misleading.

After 40 years of association with the Congress, Kishore Babu formally resigned and submitted his resignation letter to KPCC President Sunny Joseph. He accused AICC General Secretary K C Venugopal of having “hijacked” the party, alleging that Venugopal’s arrogance was at the root of the party’s problems. He further claimed that the Congress had suffered defeats in every state where Venugopal was in charge. Kishore Babu also alleged that Venugopal was responsible for Shanimol Usman’s defeat by 10,000 votes in the Alappuzha parliamentary constituency.

Criticising the Youth Congress and KSU, he said both organisations were functioning with a deteriorating political culture, which the party leadership had failed to correct. While clarifying that he had not yet joined any other party, Kishore Babu revealed that preliminary discussions had been held with the BJP leadership.

He also alleged that some Congress workers had pressured him not to hold the press conference after he arrived at the Press Club.
