Female ASI Transferred After Complaining Against KSU Leader for Threatening Her

Kollam: A woman assistant sub-inspector (ASI) who lodged a complaint against a KSU leader for allegedly entering a police station, verbally abusing and threatening police personnel has been transferred. ASI Shailaja Kumari of Kottarakkara police station, who complained against KSU district president Anwar Zulfiqar, has been transferred to Kadakkal.

Strong protests are mounting within the police force over the alleged unfair transfer of the officer, who has health issues. There are also allegations that the Rural SP supported the action.

The KSU leader allegedly entered the police station and threatened the officers on August 5 after police had detained a youth from Nedumankavu who was riding a motorcycle under the influence of alcohol during a vehicle inspection near Kottarakkara railway station and brought him to the station.

After learning about the incident, Anwar Zulfiqar arrived at the station and demanded that no case be registered against the youth. He allegedly argued with the police and said he would take the detained motorcycle and the youth out of the station.

ASI Shailaja Kumari told him that the SHO was not at the station and that the motorcycle key could be handed over only with the SHO's instructions. Angered by this, Anwar allegedly abused the officer, noted down her name from her nameplate and threatened to have her transferred to Achankovil within two days, claiming that he was a close associate of Home Minister Ramesh Chennithala.

Shailaja Kumari subsequently lodged a complaint with senior officers against Anwar over entering the police station, abusing and threatening her.
