Lobbying Intensifies for KPCC President Post Amid CM Race; Kodikunnil Suresh Meets Kharge

Thiruvananthapuram: Even as intense lobbying continues within the Congress over the Chief Minister’s post in Kerala, a parallel power struggle has now emerged over the position of Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) president.

Senior Congress leader and MP Kodikunnil Suresh has openly staked claim to the post and held a key meeting with Congress national president Mallikarjun Kharge in New Delhi. Party insiders believe the discussions are linked to the possibility of the current KPCC chief moving into the State cabinet, which could create a vacancy in the organisation’s top post.

Speaking to reporters after the meeting, Kodikunnil Suresh said the decision on who should head the KPCC rests entirely with the party high command. He noted that factors such as Kerala’s political climate, community equations, and the organisational capabilities of leaders would all be considered before a final decision is made.

Suresh described his meeting with Kharge as a “natural interaction” and said he had also hoped to meet Rahul Gandhi, though the meeting could not take place as Rahul was in Chennai.

According to party sources, the Congress high command is expected to take a final call on the KPCC presidency only after the Chief Minister is chosen and the new cabinet is formed in Keralam. However, with the party now preparing to assume power, internal competition for leadership positions has already intensified.
