Thiruvananthapuram: Liquor sales across Keralam touched ₹771.29 crore during the eight days leading up to Thiruvonam this year, sold through the state's Bevco and Consumerfed outlets, registering a rise of roughly ₹77 crore compared to the same period last year.
The bulk of the spending came on Uthradam, when sales alone totalled ₹146.66 crore. Of this, Bevco outlets contributed ₹126.31 crore while Consumerfed outlets brought in ₹20.35 crore.
By comparison, the same eight-day stretch last year had seen combined sales of ₹694.96 crore through the two agencies — putting this year's Onam season significantly ahead despite one notable dip.
That dip came from Bevco itself, which saw its Uthradam sales fall by more than ₹10 crore this year, down from ₹137 crore last year. Consumerfed too logged a marginal decline in its Uthradam numbers.
