Yellow Alert Issued in Several Districts in Keralam as Monsoon Intensifies Across South India

Thiruvananthapuram: The India Meteorological Department has declared a yellow alert in several districts of Kerala in view of the likelihood of heavy rainfall, with isolated spells of intense rain forecast. Rainfall between 64.5 mm and 115.5 mm is expected within 24 hours in the alert-affected areas.


The department's five-day rainfall outlook is as follows:


June 20, 2026: Wayanad, Kannur


June 21, 2026: Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Idukki, Ernakulam, Thrissur, Malappuram, Kozhikode


June 22, 2026: Alappuzha, Ernakulam, Thrissur, Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur, Kasaragod


June 23, 2026: Kannur, Kasaragod


Meanwhile, reports indicate that the southwest monsoon is regaining strength across the country, with the weather monitoring centre stating that the southern Indian states are likely to receive the heaviest rainfall in the country over the coming week.


Heavy rain may lash Keralam and Mahe between June 19 and 23. Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal are likely to witness isolated spells of intense rainfall between June 19 and 21. Coastal Karnataka may receive heavy rainfall from June 21 to 25, while the northern and southern interior districts of Karnataka could see extremely heavy rain on June 22 and 23. In addition, Lakshadweep is likely to receive heavy rainfall around June 21.
