Rain Likely to Continue Across Keralam Today; Yellow Alert Issued for Five Districts

Thiruvananthapuram: The India Meteorological Department has declared a yellow alert in five districts — Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur and Kasaragod — in view of the likelihood of isolated heavy rain today. Rainfall of between 64.5 mm and 115.5 mm within 24 hours is considered heavy rain. Winds of 30 to 40 km/h are also likely across the state, along with isolated thundershowers.

Authorities have reminded the public that lightning is dangerous and can cause loss of life, damage to electrical and communication networks and harm to household appliances connected to electrical conductors. People should take precautions from the moment dark clouds begin to appear, and should not let their guard down since lightning is not always visible before it strikes.

Over the next three hours, isolated moderate rain and winds of up to 40 km/h are expected in Thiruvananthapuram, Kozhikode and Kasaragod. Isolated light rain is likely in Alappuzha, Kottayam, Idukki and Kannur districts.
