Thiruvananthapuram: As the New Year begins, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a weather advisory for rainfall across parts of Kerala. The rainfall is expected due to the influence of a cyclone over southern Tamil Nadu and a low-pressure system in the region.

Districts likely to receive rain today includes Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Ernakulam, Idukki, and Palakkad.

The rain is expected to be light to moderate. Some places may experience thunderstorms accompanied by strong winds, particularly in the hilly regions, so residents are advised to exercise caution.

According to the advisory, coastal waters of Kerala are currently safe for fishing. However, fishermen in southern Tamil Nadu coast, Gulf of Mannar, and Kanyakumari areas are advised to remain cautious due to the likelihood of strong winds.

The IMD also notes that the intensity of rainfall is expected to decrease over the coming days.
