Thiruvananthapuram: Amid the relentless heat wave gripping Kerala, the India Meteorological Department has offered some relief, forecasting light rain in isolated areas of Pathanamthitta, Kottayam, and Idukki districts within the next three hours. The state has been recording heatstroke cases in several areas, with Palakkad touching 40.2°C and Punalur registering 38.6°C on Friday.

Thunderstorms accompanied by lightning had already been forecast for today and tomorrow across the state. From Monday through Wednesday, the IMD has warned of thunderstorms with lightning and strong winds gusting between 40 and 50 kilometres per hour in various parts of Keralam.

The anticipated rain from Monday onwards is expected to provide significant relief from the scorching heat that has seen the Chief Minister call for a voluntary self-lockdown between 11 am and 3 pm, extreme heat advisories issued across multiple districts, and employment guarantee scheme work suspended during peak hours.
