Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala Tourism Department is actively working to position the state as a top workation destination, Minister Mohammed Riyas said. As part of the initiative, a planning meeting was held in Thiruvananthapuram today, attended by senior officials from the department, including the Tourism Director, the IT Department Secretary, K-Fone MD, Startup Mission CEO, representatives of the Hotel and Resort Association, Internet service providers, key IT park representatives, IT employee organization representatives, and officials from various other government departments, the minister noted on Facebook.

According to the minister, workation—a concept combining work with leisure travel—has gained popularity as it helps reduce stress, encourages creativity, and allows individuals to enjoy new experiences while working. Kerala’s scenic locations make it particularly suitable for such initiatives. Over the past four years, the Tourism Department has implemented multiple programs to promote workations across the state.

The planning meeting focused on developing a roadmap to establish Kerala as India’s premier workation destination. Officials discussed in detail the measures required to enhance workation facilities and ensure coordination across various departments. The issues raised during the meeting will be submitted to the Chief Minister for further guidance.
