Kerala Completes School Textbook Revision for Classes 1 to 10, Prepares New Higher Secondary Books

Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala has successfully completed the revision of school textbooks for classes 1 to 10 in the 2025–26 academic year, making it the first state in India to accomplish such a comprehensive textbook overhaul within the stipulated timeframe.

A total of 57 titles have been developed across Malayalam, English, Tamil, and Kannada, along with the corresponding teacher manuals. Special attention has been given to the Kannada- speaking linguistic minority to ensure their textbooks are also made available.

Addressing concerns raised in some quarters regarding the Malayalam language bill, Minister V Sivankutty clarified that such criticisms have been made without fully understanding the facts.

The revision of higher secondary textbooks is also progressing rapidly. As part of this initiative, new textbooks for class 11 students will be distributed in the 2025–26 academic year, with their launch scheduled for the second week of February. Forty-one titles, covering subjects including languages and computer science, have been prepared for class 11.

The new higher secondary textbooks emphasise practical learning alongside traditional reading, reflecting a modern approach. Minister Sivankutty urged everyone to extend their cooperation at this stage, noting that Kerala’s education model continues to set an example for the rest of the country.
