Thiruvananthapuram: Pre-monsoon showers brought brief relief to parts of Kerala on Sunday, with rain reported in several locations in Pathanamthitta and Kozhikode districts. Mukkam, Thamarassery, and Balussery in Kozhikode received rainfall amid the ongoing heat wave.

However, the respite is expected to be short-lived. The IMD has warned that severe heat will persist through tomorrow and the day after, with temperatures running up to 4°C above normal across the state. Palakkad is forecast to reach 40°C, Kollam 39°C, and Pathanamthitta, Kottayam, Thrissur, and Kozhikode up to 38°C. Alappuzha, Ernakulam, Malappuram, Kannur, and Kasaragod are expected to touch 37°C, while Thiruvananthapuram may reach 36°C.

The public has been advised to remain vigilant and take all necessary precautions during peak heat hours. From Wednesday onwards, isolated heavy rainfall is forecast across the state, which is expected to bring more sustained relief from the heat wave conditions that have gripped Kerala for the past several weeks.
