Thiruvananthapuram: The Kerala government has withdrawn a list assigning officers to take charge of police stations after several errors were found, including the appointment of suspended ADGP M R Ajith Kumar to a station command. Ajith Kumar had been assigned charge of the Varkala Police Station. The list also included officers who are due to retire within a few months.

DGP Ravada Chandrasekhar issued an order withdrawing the list after the discrepancies came to light.

As a general practice, officers under suspension are kept away from official responsibilities and field duties. The inclusion of a suspended officer in the order therefore triggered controversy. Ajith Kumar remains under suspension over alleged service rule violations and various controversies.

The list had reportedly been prepared on the basis of seniority. There are indications that an inquiry may be conducted to determine whether the inclusion of the suspended ADGP’s name was merely a clerical error or whether there were other reasons behind it.
