Heavy Rainfall and Thunderstorms Forecast Across Kerala Over Next Five Days

Thiruvananthapuram: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued orange and yellow alerts for several districts in Kerala as heavy rainfall and thunderstorms are expected over the next five days.
Under the orange alert, Kottayam and Idukki have been flagged for 16 October, and Ernakulam for 17 October, with very heavy rainfall predicted between 115.6 mm and 204.4 mm in 24 hours.
A yellow alert, indicating isolated heavy rainfall of 64.5 mm to 115.5 mm, is in force for the following districts:
Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Idukki, Ernakulam, Malappuram, and Wayanad on 15 October;
Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Ernakulam, Thrissur, and Malappuram on 16 October;
Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Idukki, and Thrissur on 17 October;
Pathanamthitta, Kottayam, Idukki, Ernakulam, Thrissur, Palakkad, Malappuram, and Wayanad on 18 October;
and Pathanamthitta, Kottayam, Idukki, Kannur, and Kasaragod on 19 October.
Thunderstorms with lightning and gusty winds of 30–40 km/h are also expected in isolated areas during this period. Fishermen have been advised to avoid venturing into the sea due to squally conditions. Residents are urged to stay updated with the latest weather advisories and take necessary precautions to ensure safety.
