Orange Alert for Six Districts for Next Three Hours as Heavy Rain, Thunderstorms and Strong Winds Likely

Thiruvananthapuram: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an Orange Alert for the next three hours in Ernakulam, Thrissur, Palakkad, Malappuram, Kozhikode, and Wayanad districts, warning of isolated spells of moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms.
Strong winds with speeds of up to 50 kmph are also likely in these districts. In the remaining districts of Keralam, the IMD has forecast isolated moderate rainfall and gusty winds reaching speeds of up to 40 kmph.
According to the latest radar imagery, Palakkad, Malappuram, Kozhikode, and Wayanad are expected to experience moderate to heavy rainfall along with strong winds of up to 40 kmph.
Expected Impact
The IMD has warned of the following possible impacts:
Waterlogging on major roads and reduced visibility for motorists, which could lead to traffic congestion.
Waterlogging and localized flooding in low-lying areas and along riverbanks.
Uprooted trees may disrupt power supply and pose safety hazards.
Partial damage to houses and temporary shelters is possible.
There is a risk of landslides and mudslides in vulnerable areas.
Heavy rain may adversely affect people and livestock and could damage unsafe structures in coastal regions.
Advisory
The IMD has advised authorities to ensure efficient traffic management and urged the public to avoid non-essential travel. People are advised to remain in safe locations until weather conditions improve.
