Minister K Krishnankutty Says No Power Cuts Planned in Kerala Despite Rising Electricity Demand

Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala Electricity Minister K Krishnankutty has said there is currently no need to impose power restrictions or scheduled outages in Kerala, dismissing reports that power cuts may be introduced due to rising electricity consumption.

The minister stated that rumours about an imminent power shortage are baseless and urged the public not to worry. He noted that electricity usage has increased recently, partly because many households have started relying more on induction cooktops following LPG shortage.

Krishnankutty said a high-level meeting would soon be convened to assess the situation and review the rising demand for electricity.

Despite the surge in consumption, the state is prepared to handle any challenges, he added. According to the minister, there is currently no urgent need to import additional power from outside the state, and the government does not plan to introduce load shedding or other restrictions.

At the same time, he appealed to the public to avoid unnecessary use of electricity and practice responsible consumption to help maintain stable supply.
