Thiruvananthapuram: Travellers in Kerala will soon find it easier to locate clean restrooms during their journeys, thanks to a new mobile application called “Kloo”. Announced by Local Self-Government Minister M. B. Rajesh, the app is designed to guide users to the nearest hygienic toilet facility anywhere in the state.
Recognising that public restrooms and “Take A Break” facilities operated by local bodies alone are insufficient, the initiative will also incorporate hygienic restrooms from the private sector—such as hotels and restaurants. By including these in its database, the Kloo app aims to cover the whole of Kerala and become a reliable resource for travellers and the general public.
The name “Kloo” is a play on “Kerala Loo”. The app will include features such as real-time updates, map-based location details, and information on operating hours of listed establishments. Users will also be able to rate and review the cleanliness of the restrooms they visit. This initiative is part of the state government’s “Malinya Muktham Nava Keralam” (Waste-Free Kerala) project under the Local Self-Government Department.
Developed in collaboration with the Suchitwa Mission and the Kerala Hotel and Restaurant Association, the project also allows private establishments to promote their signature dishes, amenities and other features within the app, benefiting both users and businesses. The start-up company Frugal Scientific is responsible for the app’s development.
The Kloo app will be available on both Android and iOS platforms. According to Minister Rajesh, registration for hotels, restaurants and other establishments offering restroom facilities will commence from tomorrow.
