Kerala Hotel and Restaurant Association Calls Statewide Shutdown on Monday Over LPG Shortage in Kerala

Thiruvananthapuram: The Kerala Hotel and Restaurant Association has announced a statewide shutdown of hotels on Monday as part of intensified protests against the ongoing LPG shortage in Kerala.

The association said the decision was taken in response to the worsening scarcity of cooking gas, which has severely affected both the hotel industry and consumers. It has demanded that hotels be included in the priority list for LPG distribution to ensure uninterrupted operations.

As part of the protest, the association also plans to organise marches to bottling plants on Thursday, escalating its agitation against what it described as a prolonged supply crisis.

Industry representatives said the shortage has disrupted daily functioning of eateries across the state, with many struggling to continue operations due to irregular LPG supply. They warned that the situation is having a significant impact on the food sector and the general public.

The protest marks a major escalation by the hospitality sector, as concerns grow over the availability of essential cooking fuel across Kerala.

Meanwhile, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan has written to the Prime Minister asking for additional LPG supply to the state to find a resolution to the current crisis.
