Kerala High Court Rejects Pulsar Suni's Plea to Suspend Sentence in Actress Assault Case

Kochi: The Kerala High Court has dismissed a petition filed by Pulsar Suni, the prime accused in the actress assault case, seeking suspension of his sentence. A Division Bench rejected the plea, observing that there were no exceptional circumstances warranting the suspension of the sentence.
The court also stressed the need to safeguard the dignity of the survivor. With the petition dismissed, Pulsar Suni, the first accused in the case, will remain in prison.
The Division Bench, comprising Justices Raja Vijayaraghavan and K V Jayakumar, observed that the petitioner had failed to establish any grounds justifying the suspension of the sentence. The bench also noted that he could not point to any apparent illegality or serious infirmity in the judgment delivered by the Sessions Court.
The survivor had argued before the High Court that the trial court had already found Pulsar Suni guilty and that suspending his sentence would undermine the gravity of the offence.
The trial court had sentenced Pulsar Suni to 20 years of imprisonment in the case.
