Thiruvananthapuram: Keralam is bracing for heavy rain just as Onam approaches, with the India Meteorological Department warning that rainfall is likely to continue over the coming days following the formation of a low-pressure system in the Bay of Bengal.
A yellow alert has been issued for nine districts on Uthradam day (Tuesday) — Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Idukki, Ernakulam, Thrissur, Malappuram, Kozhikode and Wayanad. On Thiruvonam day (Wednesday), a yellow alert is in force for Pathanamthitta, Kottayam, Idukki and Ernakulam.
Fishing has been banned along the Keralam-Lakshadweep coast in view of the likelihood of strong winds.
