Flash Flood Risk in Idukki and Kasaragod as Heavy Rain Continues Across Keralam

Thiruvananthapuram: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has warned of a possibility of flash floods in parts of Idukki and Kasaragod as heavy rain continues across Keralam for the third consecutive day.

According to the warning, flash floods may occur in the western parts of Idukki district and in areas along the borders of Ernakulam and Kottayam districts during the next 24 hours. Residents in these regions have been advised to remain extremely vigilant.

Authorities have also warned of a possible flash flood in the eastern parts of Kasaragod district.

Meanwhile, the death toll from rain-related incidents across Keralam has risen to 25. A total of 418 relief camps have been opened so far, while 52 houses have been completely destroyed due to heavy rain, flooding and landslides.

A red alert has been issued in eight districts on Tuesday, with extremely heavy rainfall forecast in several parts of the state. The districts under red alert are Pathanamthitta, Kottayam, Idukki, Ernakulam, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur and Kasaragod.

The IMD defines very heavy rainfall as rainfall ranging from 115.6 mm to 204.4 mm within 24 hours.
