Heavy Rain Continues in Keralam; IMD Issues Orange Alert for Several Districts Across State

Thiruvananthapuram: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has warned that very heavy rainfall will continue across Keralam today. Rain alerts have been issued for all districts in the state.

The weather department said isolated extremely heavy rainfall is likely in Pathanamthitta, Idukki, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Ernakulam, Kannur and Kasaragod districts. Strong winds reaching speeds of up to 50 kmph are also expected in these areas. An orange alert has been issued for these districts for the next three hours.

A yellow alert is in place today in Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Thrissur, Palakkad, Malappuram, Kozhikode and Wayanad districts, where isolated heavy rainfall is likely.

Residents living in areas prone to landslides, mudslides and flash floods have been advised to move to safer locations as per instructions from authorities. The weather department has also urged people to completely avoid non-essential travel during periods of intense rainfall.

Meanwhile, red alerts have been issued for four dams in the state. The third-level warning has been announced for Kallar Kutty, Lower Periyar, Peringalkuthu and Kuttiyadi dams following rising water levels.
