KIIFB-Funded Healthcare Projects of Rs 2,789 Crore Implemented in 19 Govt Hospitals in a Month: Health Minister Veena George

Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala Health Minister Veena George informed the Assembly on Tuesday that healthcare infrastructure projects worth Rs 2,789.08 crore have been implemented in 19 government hospitals across the state using funds from the Kerala Infrastructure Investment Fund Board (KIIFB).

The minister said that development works exceeding Rs 10,000 crore have so far been executed in the health sector through KIIFB funds. In addition, healthcare projects worth around Rs 1,000 crore have been completed using NABARD funds, while further improvements have been carried out through Plan Funds and other financial sources. These investments, she said, have enabled the construction of new hospital buildings and the installation of state-of-the-art medical equipment in government hospitals.

In Thiruvananthapuram district, a new building costing Rs 23.36 crore has been completed at Malayinkeezhu Taluk Hospital, while construction of a Rs 70.72 crore building has been completed at Chirayinkeezhu Taluk Hospital. As part of a comprehensive master plan, work has begun on a new hospital complex worth Rs 207.35 crore at Thiruvananthapuram General Hospital, along with a Rs 89.46 crore project at Nedumangad District Hospital.

In Kollam district, a new building has been completed at Kundara Taluk Hospital at a cost of Rs 76.13 crore, while construction at Neendakara Taluk Hospital has been completed at a cost of Rs 46.43 crore.

In Pathanamthitta district, new buildings are under construction at Adoor General Hospital (Rs 14.64 crore) and Kozhencherry District Hospital (Rs 30.35 crore). At Konni Medical College, an administration block, academic block, hostel buildings and staff quarters have been completed at a total cost of Rs 50 crore.

In Alappuzha district, infrastructure upgrades have been completed at Thuravoor Taluk Hospital (Rs 51.4 crore), Chengannur District Hospital (Rs 97.71 crore) and Cherthala Taluk Hospital (Rs 84.98 crore).

At Kottayam Medical College, a state-of-the-art surgical block has been constructed at a cost of Rs 279.15 crore.

In Ernakulam district, new facilities—including an ophthalmic operation theatre, a postnatal ward and an additional floor to the operation theatre complex—have been set up at Kothamangalam Taluk Hospital at a cost of Rs 11.21 crore. The Cochin Cancer Research Centre has completed its new building at a cost of Rs 449 crore, while a super-specialty block has been established at Kalamassery Medical College at a cost of Rs 368 crore.

In Palakkad district, an OP-casualty block has been constructed at Alathur Taluk Hospital at a cost of Rs 12.31 crore. In Kannur district, the first phase of the International Research Institute of Ayurveda has been completed at a cost of Rs 183 crore. In Kozhikode district, the foundation stone has been laid for the Institute of Organ Transplantation, a major project estimated at Rs 643.88 crore.

The minister said these investments reflect the government’s continued commitment to strengthening Kerala’s public healthcare system and ensuring access to advanced medical services across the state.
