High Waves, Rough Sea Warning Issued in Four Districts

Thiruvananthapuram: The National Centre for Ocean Information Services (INCOIS) has warned of a possibility of rough sea due to high waves along the coasts of four Kerala districts as part of the swell surge phenomenon. The warning covers the coastal areas of Thiruvananthapuram (from Kappil to Pozhiyoor), Kollam (from Alappad to Edava), Kozhikode (from Chombala to Ramanattukara) and Kannur (from Valapattanam to New Mahe). Fishermen and coastal residents have been advised to remain vigilant in view of the possibility of a heavy sea state. Authorities have issued the following precautions: 1. As the sea is likely to become rough, people living in vulnerable areas should move to safer locations as directed by the authorities. 2. The launching of small boats and vessels into the sea should be avoided during this period. 3. During periods when swell surge and high waves are expected, bringing fishing vessels back to shore can be as dangerous as taking them out to sea. Therefore, both launching and landing fishing vessels should be avoided when wave activity intensifies. 4. All beach-based activities, including tourism-related activities, should be completely avoided until the INCOIS warning is withdrawn. 5. Fishing vessels, including boats and small craft, should be securely anchored at harbours. Maintaining a safe distance between vessels can help prevent collision-related accidents. Fishing equipment should also be secured. 6. Travel to beaches and recreational activities in the sea should be completely avoided. 7. Special caution should be exercised as there is a possibility of coastal erosion.
