Thiruvananthapuram: Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on Monday reiterated Kerala’s solidarity with the people of Palestine during a meeting with Palestine’s Ambassador to India, Abdulla Abu Shawez, at the Chief Minister’s chamber in the Assembly.
The Chief Minister said Kerala has always stood with the Palestinian people. He noted that Israel, with the backing of the United States, has continued to deny Palestine its democratic rights by violating international conventions.
The CM stressed that Kerala supports the Palestinian people’s right to self-determination. He added that the Left’s position has been consistent in calling for a Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital, in line with UN resolutions, to restore peace in West Asia. He urged the United Nations and the international community to act urgently in this regard.
Ambassador Abdulla Abu Shawez briefed the Chief Minister on the Israeli occupation and the challenges currently faced by Palestine. He said Kerala’s support at this crucial juncture is significant and expressed hope that greater international backing would strengthen Palestine’s cause.
