Thiruvananthapuram: Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, in a powerful speech at the Kerala Legislative Assembly, refuted the opposition’s allegations against the Left Democratic Front (LDF) government, emphasizing the administration’s commitment to communal harmony, law enforcement, and social welfare.
The opposition in Kerala has consistently attempted to tarnish the image of the Left Democratic Front (LDF) government through baseless allegations and false propaganda. However, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, in his address to the Kerala Legislative Assembly on demand for grants discussion, categorically refuted these claims and highlighted the government’s unwavering commitment to communal harmony, law enforcement, and social welfare.
Kerala’s Communal Harmony: A Stark Contrast to Other States
Kerala remains one of the most peaceful states in the country, free from religious conflicts and violent oppression. Unlike in several other states where communal forces dictate governance, Kerala has effectively maintained social harmony. The opposition’s attempts to discredit the Kerala Police as inhumane and oppressive are unfounded. The force has been working tirelessly to ensure public safety and social order. The opposition’s selective outrage is evident as they ignore instances of police brutality in other states, such as Rajasthan, where a one -month -old infant was tragically stamped to death. Meanwhile, in Kerala, a woman police constable breastfed a 12 -day- old abducted infant, saving its life—a testament to the compassion and humanity of the state’s law enforcement.
Manipulative Narrative on Law and Order
The opposition continuously fabricates claims about deteriorating law and order in Kerala while turning a blind eye to the situation in other states. In Manipur, even after the imposition of President’s Rule, violence persists. In Telangana, journalists were arrested simply for criticising the government. In Rajasthan, a young man was brutally beaten to death for refusing to participate in Holi celebrations while preparing for his Revenue Officer exam at a library. This incident is reminiscent of the Pehlu Khan case, which also occurred in Rajasthan. Yet, the opposition chooses to remain silent on these grave incidents while targeting Kerala’s governance with baseless accusations.
Similarly, discriminatory policies are being implemented in Uttar Pradesh, where authorities have mandated identification checks for street vendors along the Kanwar Yatra route. Such actions raise concerns about caste and religious discrimination. Interestingly, similar measures were not implemented in Congress -ruled Himachal Pradesh. In contrast, Kerala continues to uphold a secular and inclusive governance model, ensuring equal rights and opportunities for all.
Kerala’s Relentless Fight Against the Narcotics
Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan highlighted the LDF government’s relentless efforts to tackle the narcotics menace. Kerala has successfully apprehended key figures involved in international narcotic trafficking, while the opposition conveniently ignores the nexus between certain political factions and narcotic cartels. Despite massive narcotic seizures across the country—including 2,500 kg in Kochi, 3,300 kg in Gujarat, and 6,000 kg in the Bay of Bengal—no national leader from the opposition has addressed these concerns. Kerala, on the other hand, has the highest conviction rate in narcotic -related cases at 99 per cent, significantly surpassing the national average of 78 per cent. Moreover, 108 police officers involved in narcotic -related corruption have been dismissed, proving the government’s zero-tolerance policy.
The government has ensured that even those within the police force do not escape justice. A key suspect was arrested in Tamil Nadu after the Kerala government secured the cancellation of his bail through the Supreme Court. Authorities in Andaman seized Rupees 100 crore worth of synthetic narcotics. An inter-state narcotic trafficking kingpin was arrested in Odisha, and a billionaire narcotic manufacturer was taken into custody in Hyderabad. Additionally, a Tanzanian national involved in narcotic smuggling was apprehended. These successes highlight Kerala’s proactive and relentless approach to tackling narcotic -related crimes.
False Allegations Turn Against the Opposition
Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan stated that those who tried to tarnish the LDF government are now covered in the same dirt. "We repeatedly see that the tar meant to be thrown at others ends up staining those who carry it.' Cases such as the Walayar incident, the attack on the AKG Center, and the arson at Sandeepananda Giri’s ashram were all dismissed by the courts as baseless. Ironically, in the Walayar case, the opposition backed an individual, made them a candidate, and paraded them across Kerala to spread allegations against the government—only for the same individual to be exposed as an accused in the CBI probe.
The opposition, along with certain media houses, follows a predictable pattern—making allegations, disappearing when they are proven false, and returning with new fabricated narratives. Even the Kerala High Court has remarked that these accusations are driven by publicity interests rather than public welfare. The United Democratic Front (UDF) has a long history of failed allegations. Certain media outlets, in their eagerness to sensationalise even trivial matters against the LDF, continue to provide unconditional support to both the UDF and BJP.
Despite nine years of continuous false accusations, the LDF government remains steadfast and continues to excel. If the opposition had any integrity, they would have publicly apologised for their repeated smear campaigns. However, their agenda is not to regain credibility but to disrupt governance through deceit.
Zero Tolerance Towards Corruption and Governance Modernisation
Unlike the opposition’s governance history riddled with corruption, the LDF government has adopted a stringent anti-corruption stance. The Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Bureau (VACB) has been actively conducting operationpros, with 18 corrupt officials arrested in just two months of 2025. This marks the highest number of corruption -related arrests in a single month in Kerala’s history, with 17 cases registered against officials engaging in bribery and misconduct.
Additionally, the government is modernising its institutions, including the Fire and Rescue Services, forensic labs, and printing presses, with a substantial investment of Rupees 100 crore. The Central Press in Thiruvananthapuram and the Government Press in Mannanthala are being upgraded to incorporate advanced technology. The Public Relations Department plays a crucial role in ensuring that the government’s development and welfare initiatives are effectively communicated to the public.
Prison Reforms and Disaster Management Initiatives
Kerala’s prisons are being transformed into reformative institutions. The government has established a Prison Advisory Committee, chaired by the Chief Minister, to oversee the welfare and rehabilitation of inmates. Vocational training and educational programs are being provided to help inmates reintegrate into society after their release.
The state has also been proactive in disaster management, given its vulnerability to natural calamities. Comprehensive disaster management plans have been implemented, and virtual cadres in various departments have been established to handle emergencies. Training programs and awareness campaigns are being conducted to prepare the public for disasters.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, the government granted parole to prisoners for up to 655 days, following Supreme Court directives. No eligible prisoner was denied parole. The government is also improving the infrastructure of special schools for children in conflict with the law, ensuring better facilities and care. To address the workload in forensic labs, the government has created 56 new posts in the previous tenure and an additional 28 posts in the current tenure. Further measures are being taken to reduce delays in forensic reports.
Operation D-Hunt, a special drive against narcotic trafficking conducted from February 22 to March 1, 2025, resulted in significant seizures and arrests, reinforcing Kerala’s proactive approach to law enforcement. The LDF government, under the leadership of Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, continues to focus on development, social harmony, and governance transparency. While the opposition engages in baseless smear campaigns, the government remains committed to progress. The state's achievements in law enforcement, anti-corruption measures, disaster management, and prison reforms stand as a model for the rest of the country. The people of Kerala recognise these efforts and will not be swayed by the opposition’s false propaganda.
