Congress workers held with MDMA worth 7 lakh

Kasaragod: Three Congress workers were arrested at Kallikkadavu in Kasaragod with 139.29 grams of MDMA with a market value of Rs 7 lakh.

Those arrested are P A Abdul Salam (27), K H Mohammed Hussain (28) and P A Abbas (50), natives of Arakkapady in Perumbavoor, Ernakulam.

The arrested persons are active Youth Congress workers and close associates of V D Satheesan. K H Mohammed Hussain is the president of the Youth Congress Vengola panchayat 142 booth committee. P A Abdul Salam and P A Abbas are also Youth Congress workers. They are active Congress workers in the Arakkapady area of Vengola panchayat. The Congress leadership is also reportedly concerned after learning that those including a booth president had been arrested with a dangerous narcotic drug.

Pictures of the accused with V D Satheesan and Industries Minister P K Kunhalikutty have surfaced. The investigation into the incident is expanding to more people. The investigators are looking into whether their relation with the senior congress leaders are used transporting the drugs, among other aspects.

The group, which had left Perumbavoor for Kasaragod in a Swift car carrying MDMA, was arrested at the district border during a vehicle inspection conducted by the DANSAF special squad. The group and the car in which they were travelling were handed over to the Chandera police.

During an inspection conducted by Chandera SI Manu P Cheriyan and his team, 139.29 grams of MDMA was seized from the accused.

The three were produced before the court and remanded in custody.
