Kasaragod: Police halted a concert on Sunday night after overcrowding at the venue caused chaos and discomfort among attendees, officials said.
The event, featuring Malayalam singer Hanan Shaah, was part of an expo held at a ground near the private bus stand. A larger-than-expected crowd led to severe congestion, with several spectators experiencing physical discomfort, police officials reported.
Despite a police presence, the situation became unmanageable by around 9 pm. Approximately 10 people were taken to a nearby hospital, but their conditions were reported as stable.
Additional police personnel arrived and instructed the crowd to disperse. When some attendees refused to leave, the concert was called off. Authorities later resorted to a lathi charge to control the section of the crowd that insisted on staying.
Kasaragod police officials said the situation is now under control and have urged organisers to take stricter measures for crowd management in future events.
