Kannur University Denies Permission for SFI Event Featuring Aishe Ghosh

Kannur: Kannur University Vice-Chancellor has denied permission for a programme at the Palayad campus that was scheduled to feature SFI All India Joint Secretary Aishe Ghosh. The Vice-Chancellor refused permission for the ‘She Fest’ planned at the campus. However, SFI leaders said the event would be held as scheduled.
The university union had planned to conduct the programme at the campus seminar hall on Monday. However, late on Sunday, the campus director emailed the student union informing them that the programme would not be allowed as it did not have the permission of the registrar or the Vice-Chancellor. The campus director also directed the students to immediately remove flags, decorations and banners.
SFI said it could not accept the university’s decision. The organisation alleged that the Vice-Chancellor was angered by the participation of Aishe Ghosh, who had been at the forefront of the youth protest at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar.
SFI said a decision had already been taken during an earlier discussion with the Vice-Chancellor that the student union did not require prior permission to organise programmes. The organisation also said it would proceed with the She Fest as planned.
