Thiruvananthapuram: Kadakampally Surendran MLA has accused certain media outlets of spreading fictional stories out of frustration over the delay in reporting that he had given a statement to the investigation team. He emphasised that he is clarifying the matter to ensure the public is not misled. He appeared before the Special Investigation Team at the Crime Branch headquarters last Saturday. On Facebook, he noted that he attended and returned after giving his statement in his usual black Toyota Yaris.

He reminded that the files related to the Sabarimala gold plate controversy are currently under court consideration, and that copies are already with all media outlets. If there is a note indicating that he asked to assist Unnikrishnan Potty’s application, the media should show the courtesy to release it. He also denied claims that the files contain references to the him directing help to Unnikrishnan Potty, and requested that any such order, if it exists, be made public.

Surendran refuted allegations that a house in the constituency was built under Unnikrishnan Potty’s sponsorship. While several houses have been constructed in the constituency with the support of the government and well-wishers, none were sponsored by Unnikrishnan Potty. He added that if such a house does exist, the media should be prepared to show the beneficiaries to the public.

He stressed that spreading false information to mislead people is wrong. Surendran also pointed out that even after 84 days since the gold plate controversy allegations were raised against him, the opposition leader has not submitted a single supporting document in court.
