Thiruvananthapuram: Speaking on Kerala’s health sector achievements, Dr. John Brittas MP highlighted that the state’s infant mortality rate stands at five per thousand births—lower than the 5.5 rate in the United States. In contrast, Uttar Pradesh, often cited as a model state by the BJP, records an infant mortality rate of 37, while the national average is 27, he noted.

Using these figures, Brittas raised pointed questions about the politics and governance of the BJP. “What should Kerala learn from Uttar Pradesh, Modi’s Gujarat, or Bihar?” he asked. He questioned whether Malayalis should emulate the BJP’s model of politics, which he described as one built on division and hatred rather than inclusive development.

Brittas clarified that Kerala should not follow a development path promoted by the BJP that overlooks social harmony and divides communities along religious lines. He urged Malayalis to chart a course rooted in equality, progress, and communal harmony, rather than adopting the BJP’s political strategies.
