Malappuram: With the local body elections approaching, inner conflicts in Muslim League about Tirurangadi Municipality candidate still continues.

A rebel candidate has entered the fray in the division of IUML State General Secretary P.M.A. Salam.

In the 25th division of Tirurangadi Municipality, Kalody Sulaikha, who is also the current deputy chairperson of the municipality, has already begun her campaign. Meanwhile, C.P. Habeeba is contesting as the official UDF candidate in the same division.

As the division was reserved for women, Sulaikha’s name had been considered for the municipal chairperson post. However, during a recent meeting of the IUML’s high-level committee in Tirurangadi, it was decided not to give her a ticket, following which she entered the race as a rebel candidate. Sulaikha had previously won as a rebel candidate in the gram panchayat elections.

At the same time, C.P. Ismail, the current chairman of the health standing committee, and Sameena Muzhikal, a councillor from Ward 1, have also been excluded from the League’s list of candidates.

In Parappanangadi, disagreements between the Congress and the Muslim League over seat allocation continue. The Congress’s demand to swap seats in Mooniyur was not accepted by the League, causing further friction.

As in the previous elections, the Muslim League has decided to allot one seat in Tirurangadi to the Welfare Party as part of the UDF alliance strategy.
