Man Sentenced to 34 Years for Sexual Assault of Nine-Year-Old Girl in Kodakara

Irinjalakuda: A 58-year-old man from Kodakara has been sentenced to 34 years of rigorous imprisonment and fined Rs 2,25,000 for sexually assaulting a nine-year-old girl. Irinjalakuda Fast Track Special Court Judge P A Sirajuddin handed down the sentence against Shivan.
Under POCSO provisions, the sentence is 28 years of rigorous imprisonment and a fine of Rs 1,75,000, with an additional six months of rigorous imprisonment if the fine is not paid. Under various provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, the sentence is six years of rigorous imprisonment and a fine of Rs 50,000, with two additional months if the fine is not paid.
The court ordered that the fine amount, once recovered, be paid as compensation to the survivor. The District Legal Services Authority has also been directed to ensure adequate compensation for the survivor. The accused is already serving a six-year sentence in another POCSO case.
The crime took place on July 19 and 20, 2024, at the accused's residence. The case was charged by Kodakara police, with the chargesheet filed by then Inspector P K Das. Special Public Prosecutor Adv. Viju Vazhakkal appeared for the prosecution.
