‘Internship Kerala’ Portal Set to Offer Students Career Opportunities

Thiruvananthapuram: The Kerala government’s ‘Internship Kerala’ portal, aimed at providing students with work experience alongside their studies, is set to launch soon. The initiative will offer lakhs of opportunities across government, public sector, and private institutions.
Developed by the Higher Education Council in collaboration with Keltron, the portal is part of efforts to integrate internships and placements into the four-year undergraduate programs introduced last academic year. Universities including Kerala, Calicut, MG, and Kannur have signed agreements with Keltron to facilitate the internships.
Nearly six hundred institutions have already registered on the portal, offering positions in sectors such as Banking and Finance, Logistics, Healthcare, Tourism, Textile, Media and Entertainment, Robotics, and Sports and Fitness. The portal aims to provide practical experience and enhance students’ career prospects, while also creating potential recruitment opportunities. Participating institutions will provide additional training to interested candidates.
Internships will be available in the fourth and eighth semesters of the undergraduate program and will be offered in three formats: paid, unpaid, and stipend-based. Students can earn two to four academic credits during the internship period. The choice of hosting institution will be aligned with the student’s field of study, and students can create personal profiles to select internships matching their interests and academic focus.
State and district coordinators will be appointed to oversee the program, and coordinators of undergraduate programs and skill development centers in colleges will act as nodal officers for the portal.
The portal will be officially inaugurated on October 22 at the Mascot Hotel in Thiruvananthapuram by Higher Education Minister R. Bindu.
