Intense Heat Hits Kerala: Palakkad Records Highest Temperature in 2026

Thiruvananthapuram: The heat in Kerala is becoming unbearable. Palakkad has recorded the highest temperature in the state in 2026, reaching 39.8°C. This is 2.2°C higher than the normal temperature. Due to the intense heat, a yellow alert has been issued for Palakkad district. Following Palakkad, the highest temperature was recorded in Punalur, Kollam district, at 38°C. Kottayam recorded 37.3°C, Vellanikkara 36.8°C, Nedumbassery 35.8°C, and Kannur International Airport 36.4°C. The Central Meteorological Department has issued a warning that temperatures may rise up to 38°C in the coming days.Prolonged exposure to ultraviolet rays can lead to skin diseases, eye problems, and other health issues, such as sunburn.

The highest UV index is usually recorded between 10 AM and 3 PM. Avoid direct exposure to sunlight for long periods during these hours.


People engaged in outdoor work, fishermen involved in sea or inland fishing, those in water transport, bikers, tourists, individuals with skin or eye diseases, cancer patients, and others with low immunity should take special precautions.


When going outdoors during the day, it is recommended to use a hat, umbrella, and sunglasses. Wearing cotton clothing that covers the entire body is advisable.


During travel, try to rest in shaded areas whenever possible.


In hilly areas and tropical regions, the UV index is generally high. Residents of these regions should take extra care to protect themselves from UV exposure.
