Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala’s sports fans will witness a much-awaited thrilling contest today as the capital city hosts an exciting competition. The first match to be held in Kerala in the India–Sri Lanka Women’s T20 International cricket series will take place today at the Greenfield Stadium, Kariavattom Sports Hub. The match will begin at 7.00 pm. A total of three matches are scheduled at Greenfield Stadium on December 26, 28, and 30.

This encounter is special as it marks the first-ever international women’s cricket match to be held in Kerala. The first two matches of the five-match series were played in Visakhapatnam, both of which were won by Harmanpreet Kaur and her team, giving India a 2–0 lead in the series. If India wins today’s match as well, they will seal the series.

India’s main batting strength lies with captain Harmanpreet Kaur, vice-captain Smriti Mandhana, Jemimah Rodrigues, and Shafali Verma. In the middle order, Richa Ghosh is expected to shine with her explosive batting and will also take the field as the specialist wicketkeeper. Despite the absence of all-rounder Deepti Sharma, India’s bowling attack featuring Sneh Rana, Arundhati Reddy, and Amanjot Kaur provides strong support.

On the other hand, after losing the first two matches, Sri Lanka faces a do-or-die battle today. The performances of captain Chamari Athapaththu, Harshitha Samarawickrama, and Inoka Ranweera will be crucial for the Lankan side. Inconsistency in middle-order batting remains Sri Lanka’s major concern at present.

Kerala’s sporting community is eagerly waiting to witness this historic moment.
