INCOIS Issues Coastal Erosion Alert for Kanyakumari Coast Amid Possibel Swell Surge Warning

Thiruvananthapuram: The National Centre for Oceanographic Studies and Research (INCOIS) has issued a warning about the possibility of Coastal erosion along the Kanyakumari coast, from Neerodi to Arokyapuram, due to rough waves ranging from 0.8 to 1.0 meters in height from swell surge. This phenomenon is expected to occur from Saturday evening until Sunday night. The Disaster Management Authority has advised fishermen and residents in coastal areas to remain vigilant during this period.

Key Advisory Points:

1. Stay Clear of Dangerous Areas: With the sea expected to become rough, avoid venturing into identified risk zones, and follow all instructions issued by authorities.

2. Avoid Small Boats and Yachts: The launching of small boats, yachts, or any similar vessels should be strictly avoided during this time.

3. Fishing Vessel Operations: Attempting to land or launch fishing vessels during the rough sea conditions poses significant danger. Both launching and landing should be postponed until the risk subsides.

4. Suspension of Beach Activities: All beach-related activities, including tourism, should be suspended until the INCOIS warning is lifted.

5. Safe Harbor for Fishing Vessels: Fishing vessels, including boats and yachts, should be securely moored in the harbor. Ensuring sufficient space between boats will reduce the risk of collisions. Make sure all fishing equipment is safely stored.

6. Avoid Recreational Sea Activities: All trips to the beach and sea-based recreational activities should be completely avoided during this period.

7. Vigilance for Coastal Erosion: There is a heightened risk of coastal erosion. Residents and visitors are urged to stay alert.
