Thiruvananthapuram: The India Meteorological Department has revised its rain warning for Keralam, issuing a Red Alert for three districts.

A Red Alert, indicating the likelihood of extremely heavy rainfall, has been declared for Malappuram, Kozhikode, and Wayanad. An Orange Alert remains in effect for Ernakulam, Idukki, Thrissur, Palakkad, Kannur, and Kasaragod.

A Yellow Alert has been issued for Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, and Kottayam. For tomorrow, the IMD has forecast a Yellow Alert for Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur, and Kasaragod.

Meanwhile, with heavy rainfall continuing across Keralam, authorities have declared a holiday for educational institutions in three districts on Thursday. The decision applies to Kozhikode, Wayanad, and Malappuram, where the India Meteorological Department has issued a Red Alert.

Reports indicate that waterlogging has already been reported in several areas. Malappuram district also remains under a Red Alert, although detailed instructions regarding the functioning of educational institutions in the district are yet to be officially released.

In Wayanad, the holiday has been declared for all educational institutions, including anganwadis, religious study centres, tuition centres, special classes, professional colleges, and other educational establishments. However, the order does not apply to residential schools and residential colleges.

In Kozhikode, the District Collector said the holiday was announced to prevent accidents and rain-related disasters in view of forecasts predicting continued heavy rain and strong winds in the coming days. The holiday will apply to all schools, madrasas, tuition centres, anganwadis, and professional colleges in the district.

The administration clarified that university examinations and Kerala Public Service Commission examinations scheduled for the day will be held as planned without any changes.
