Government’s Claim of No Prior Warning About Rain Exposed as IMD Report Surfaces

Thiruvananthapuram: As heavy rain continues across Keralam, the state government is continuing to spread false narratives. Home Minister Ramesh Chennithala’s claim that the government had not received a rainfall warning has been disproved by documentary evidence, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) having issued a weather forecast report as early as July 31.

The report contained a seven-day weather forecast beginning on July 31. It warned of heavy rainfall and strong winds in Keralam from July 31 to August 6. The report has made it clear that the government ignored the weather department’s warning.

The report also warned of the possibility of landslides, mudslides and flash floods due to the heavy rain. The weather department had further cautioned that low-lying areas could face waterlogging and flooding.

The UDF government's failure to heed these warnings was a major reason for the hardship the state is facing today.
