Thiruvananthapuram: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast isolated heavy rainfall across Keralam on May 14 and 15 as multiple weather systems intensify over the surrounding seas.

According to the them, the low-pressure system that formed over the Bay of Bengal is likely to strengthen further within the next 48 hours. A trough extending from the low-pressure centre over the southwest Bay of Bengal to southern Tamil Nadu and further towards southern Lakshadweep at an altitude of 1.5 to 4.5 kilometres above sea level is expected to trigger isolated heavy rainfall in several regions.

The IMD also reported the formation of a cyclonic circulation over the southeast Arabian Sea and adjoining Lakshadweep–Keralam coast.

Authorities have warned that isolated parts of Keralam and Mahe are likely to experience thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds over the next five days.

Residents have been advised to remain cautious during periods of intense rain, lightning, and strong winds, particularly in vulnerable and low-lying areas.
