Two More Children in Idukki Test Positive for Shigella

Idukki: Two fresh Shigella cases have been confirmed in Idukki district, with a nine-year-old boy and a four-and-a-half-year-old girl, both from Pazhayarikkandom, testing positive on Tuesday. The boy is undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Thodupuzha while the girl has been admitted to Idukki Medical College. Both children are reported to be improving.
Authorities have collected water samples from the school attended by the two children for testing, and the water supply has been chlorinated, officials said.
The fresh cases bring the total number of Shigella infections in Idukki district this year to five — a sharp rise compared to only two cases confirmed in the district last year.
